Sardinia by Ferry

How to get by ferry in Sardinia? There are many shipping companies, different ferry lines and many rates.
I try to give you some tips to book a ferry to Sardinia.
Let’s start by saying that we have four ports: Olbia (NE), Porto Torres (NW), Cagliari (S) and Arbatax (SE).

Olbia is the busiest port. It is linked to Genova, Livorno and Civitavecchia. We includes in Olbia port also the near docking of Golfo Aranci (20 Km), where moor the Sardinia Ferries shipping company getting from Livorno. The line from Civitavecchia is the fastest, during the high season it takes less the 6 hours. From Genova and from Livorno ferries take 10 hours of shipping.
It is a good access to get around the island, in fact through the SS131 “Carlo Felice” will arrive in about 3 hours at Cagliari and others destinations of southern Sardinia.
For the SGT Event is the nearest port to the starting point, in fact Arzachena in only 25 Km .

Porto Torres has the lines to Genova and to France (Marseille and Toulon) running all the year round. During the summer there are lines also from Civitavecchia. The trips takes 10 hours.
It gives great access to the whole island, it’s nearer to Cagliari than Olbia (2 ½ hours).
For the SGT Event 2014, Porto Torres is closer to Alghero but is 140 Km far from Arzachena.

Cagliari, is the main port for the whole South Sardinia and is the only one linked to South Italy destination. Besides being connected with Civitavecchia, is also connected with Naples, Palermo and Trapani. Shipping are longer than the others, at least 12 hours.

Finally, there is Arbatax, linking Genova, Livorno and Civitavecchia. It is a good option for those who want to get to the South West and central Sardinia. Definitely is not a convenient solution for the SGT Event 2014.
