Overview

Starting from Palermo we'll cross the Arabic west, then we'll head south immersing ourselves in the Magna Graecia, ending with the triumph of Baroque in the East. From Palermo to Trapani

We leave the kaleidoscopic Palermo, and we’ll climb along the Conca d’Oro valley till Monreale, a cozy hamlet built around one of the world’s most stunning architectural treasures, the impressive Cathedral of Santa Maria Nuova. A long downhill, touching the blue sea of Castellamare del Golfo, before the last effort across the Val d’Erice, ending with the northern African perfumes of Trapani.

From Trapani to Selinunte

Again along the coast, pedaling through Sciacca and its scenic sea views, conquering the whole glory of this part of Magna Graecia in the Temples Valley of Agrigento. In the middle, the hills covered by the wonderful orange groves of Ribera, producing the famous tasty oranges certified by a strict DOP.

From Selinunte to Agrigento

From Agrigento to Piazza Armerina

That's the hardest stage of the tour, climbing through the romantic hills of the inner Sicily up to the old village of Piazza Armerina, hosting the amazing Villa Romana del Casale, a monument of great value due to both the complexity of the architectural layout and the spectacular conservation of the floor mosaics.

From Piazza Armerina to Ragusa

We leave the lush gardens and orchards of Piazza Armerina to pass through the most typical landscapes of the interior of Sicily, made of hills designed by fields and stone walls. In Caltagirone we admire the monumental colorful stairway of Santa Maria del Monte, then we continue through olive groves and vineyards till the triumphal baroque of Ragusa, a marvelous city known throughout the world, both for its beauty and the quality of its gastronomy, awarded with three Michelin starred restaurants.

From Ragusa to Siracusa

We start climbing again on the Altopiano (plateau) Ibleo enjoying a beautiful view over Ragusa, this countryside is one of the most beautiful in Sicily, the second climb of the day leads us to the ancient village of Palazzolo Acreide, then a long and gradual descent from the hills to the orchards of the Syracuse countryside, to the bastions on Ortigia island, an ancient Greek settlement that has given rise to the most powerful Greek colony in the Mediterranean. Ortigia, in just a square kilometer of extension, combines a number of impressive palaces and monuments, including the magnificent Duomo di Siracusa (Cathedral of the Nativity of Most Holy), a building of rare interest in incorporating the ancient Temple of Athena. An aperitif on the ancient walls, facing the sunset over the sea, and a dinner in one of the city's finest restaurants, close the day and our fantastic tour across Sicily.
