FERRY

How to get by ferry in Sardinia? There are many shipping companies, different ferry lines and many rates.

We’ll give you some tips to book a ferry to Sardinia.
Let’s start by saying that we have four ports: Olbia (NE), Porto Torres (NW), Cagliari (S) and Arbatax (SE).

Olbia is the busiest port. It is linked to Genova, Livorno, Piombino and Civitavecchia. We include in Olbia port also the near docking of Golfo Aranci (20 Km), where moores the Sardinia Ferries shipping company getting from Livorno. The line from Civitavecchia is the fastest, during the high season it takes less than 6 hours. From Genova and from Livorno ferries take 10 hours of shipping.
It is a good access to get to the island, in fact through the SS131 “Carlo Felice” you’ll arrive in about 3 hours in Cagliari and southern Sardinia.

Porto Torres has the lines to Genova and to France (Marseille and Toulon) running all the year round. During the summer there are lines also from Civitavecchia. The trips takes 10 hours. It gives great access to the whole island, it’s nearer to Cagliari than Olbia (2 ½ hours).

Cagliari, is the main port for the whole South Sardinia and is the only one linked to South Italy destinations. Besides being connected with Civitavecchia, it is also connected with Naples, Palermo and Trapani. Shipping takes longer than the others, at least 12 hours.

Finally, there is Arbatax, linking Genova, Livorno and Civitavecchia. It is a good option for those who want to explore central east Sardinia.

BUSES

The regional Bus company is the ARST. They manage also the narrow gauge train system, very fascinating. On their website there is a useful system to calcolate the itinerary https://arst.sardegna.it/index.html

A good way to connect Cagliari with Alghero Airport is offered by Logudoro Tours: https://www.logudorotours.it/orari.php

Another company connecting north to south is Turmo Travel: https://www.gruppoturmotravel.com/english-version/trasportopubblico.php

TRAIN

In Sardinia there is not a fast train (so far), so you can better enjoy our landscape 🙂
